Director

Born in Ohio, Gary Aubry attended Asbury College in Kentucky where he earned his degree in music education, studying under James Curnow. He lived for a few years in Indiana and moved to Wisconsin in 1990 to work for Hal Leonard Corporation.

Music has always been a passion for him for most of his life. Mr. Aubry has been directing music for almost 40 years. He has directed mostly church choirs, but has also directed concert bands, orchestras and jazz ensembles through the years. Most recently Mr. Aubry was the director of the Bay View United Methodist Choir from September 2000 until June of 2011.

One aspect of Mr. Aubry’s musical background has been in composing, arranging and orchestrating. He has a love for the process of the creation of new music: the melodies, the harmonies, the interacting of voicings. Mr. Aubry is also interested in promoting new works written by minorities. He continues to support the time-honored traditions of musical repertoire that has been a staple of Cantare Chorale.

He lives with his life partner Karen Rasmussen in Cudahy and with their two cats and has a daughter, Jessica, who is currently working toward her Master’s Degree.
